Mobile Number Portability (MNP) was introduced on 20 November 2006, allowing cellular subscribers to switch from one mobile network or service provider to another, whilst keeping the same cellphone number.

Whether on prepaid or on contract, MNP offers the following advantages:
• You are able to choose your service provider (e.g. VSP) of preference.
• You are able to choose your network operator (e.g. Vodacom) of preference.
• You get to keep your cellular number when switching between networks or service providers.

Disadvantages of Mobile Number Portability:
• There may be cancellation costs for moving your contract to another Service Provider should your contract period not have come to an end.
